“We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 TPT

” The enemy knows that, left unchecked, negative thoughts lead to negative emotions, and negative emotions lead to wrong decisions and wrong decisions lead to a less than blessed life.”
Occasionally, my youngest son calls for me after having just prayed with him and tucking him into bed. He is notorious for finding viable excuses to stay awake. You may be familiar with some of these: “I’m thirsty, I’m hungry, I can’t think of something to dream about, I’m not tired…” Sometimes, however, he says, “Mom, I’m thinking of bad thoughts” ( which usually means yetis and spiders). One time when he said this, I felt a nudge by the Holy Spirit to ask him, “Who’s the boss of your thoughts?” After determining that he was indeed the boss of his thoughts, it seemed a light came on for both of us.
The word boss means to be in charge, or to give orders in a domineering fashion. The enemy would have us believe that we are subject to the barrage of negative thoughts that flood our minds, and that we have no control over them. However, 2 Corinthians 10:5-6 TPT tells us to “capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.”
You are in no position to do this if you don’t realize that you are the one who is in charge and have the power to give orders.
Our thoughts were designed to serve us, not visa versa. The enemy knows that, left unchecked, negative thoughts lead to negative emotions, and negative emotions lead to wrong decisions and wrong decisions lead to a less than blessed life.
I myself was plagued with negative thoughts for years. There were moments when the flow of them was so overwhelming, it was almost paralyzing. Thank God for His power to set free and deliver! I am not yet who I will be, but I certainly am not who I was in this area of my life. Let me encourage you. The next time fearful and worrisome thoughts dare to come to your mind, remind yourself who is in charge by asking- “who’s the boss?”
Prayer: Jesus, I bring every thought I have today under Your Lordship.
