“Unlike earthly contracts, where both parties take responsibility, His contract only requires one thing on our end…to come into agreement…”
Genesis 15:1-6 conveys a remarkable story where God is speaking to Abraham about his promise to bless him and make him a father of many. God provides him a visible point of reference to hold on to..the very stars in the sky. Verse 6(NLT) of this chapter states, ” And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.”
The word “believed” here in Hebrew is translated as “Aman.” This is where we get the word “Amen” from; therefore, Abraham (Abram) “amened” the Lord when he heard this great promise. To “amen” means to build up or support…to come into agreement with. In English it is as if we are saying “yes, let this be.” The verse later says that God counted him as righteous because of his faith.
Throughout the Bible, there are countless stories where we see God partnering with men on earth to accomplish His good will. Another amazing account is in Luke 1:26-38 when the angel Gabriel appeared to a young virgin named Mary, informing her that she will be bearing the Son of God. What was her response to this staggering news? Mary says,” I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” In other words, she did not question a virgin birth, what Joseph would think, or how she may be treated by others, she simply came into agreement.
A contract can be defined as a legally binding agreement between two consenting parties. Usually there are responsibilities made by both parties and a seal- usually completed when both sign, to activate a contract. God’s promises to us are like a written contract. We can find every thing we are entitled to through the finished work of the Cross and the Blood of Jesus in the Word of God, and as with every contract, it requires two consenting parties.
It has been said that there are over 8,810 promises in the Bible with 7,487 being made by God to man. Our Heavenly Father always makes good on these promises. They are there and waiting for the taking; however, He is waiting for those who are willing to partner with Him. Unlike earthly contracts, where both parties take responsibility, His contract only requires one thing on our end…to come into agreement.
Father, I say “yes, and amen” to all You have for my life. Let Your holy will be done. I agree with it and receive it today in Jesus’ holy name!
