Who’s Your Daddy

He has rescued us completely from the tyrannical rule of darkness and has translated us into the kingdom realm of his beloved Son.”Colossians 1:13 TPT

“God was literally saying, “Please, let me be your Daddy. I want to take care of you.”

Just after entering the Promised land the Israelites gathered in modern day Samaria. Six of the 12 tribes were told to stand on the stark and barren mountain of Ebal while the other six tribes stood on Mt. Gerizim, lush with vegetation. The elders of the priestly tribe of Levi which gathered in the valley between the two mountains had been commanded to conduct a litany of sorts. They were to read out the curses in Deuteronomy while facing Mt. Ebal and the blessing while facing Mt. Gerizim. As they read each line the response from the tribes on the mountain was, “Amen” which means “so let it be.”

God was creating an object lesson for His people. It is no coincidence that the  name “Ebal” in Hebrew means “heap of barrenness.” The name “Gerizim” is said to mean “cut in two,” which I believe may refer to the cutting of a covenant. In Jewish culture when two parties entered into a lasting agreement, or covenant, they would cut an animal in two and walk ceremonially through the blood in a circle eight motion. These two mountains in name and in physical appearance represented two paths, two kingdoms, and ultimately -two fathers.

As the Hebrew tribes stood on the barren wasteland of Ebal, they were physically reminded of the end result of the curse and what becomes of those who are aligned with the kingdom of darkness, whose father is Satan. Likewise, those tribes standing on the fruitful green fields of Gerizim were reminded of the reward for those who come into covenant with God and His kingdom of blessing and light. God was literally saying, “Please, let me be your Daddy. I want to take care of you.”

Culture today wants to deceive the world into believing there are no clear delineations between good and evil, light and dark, God and Satan and truth itself is relative. However, if we can see beyond the veil of deception and confusion, it is evident that our lives, choices, and thoughts convey which kingdom we have aligned with and which father we have chosen-either directly or by default. So today’s question is…who’s your daddy?

Prayer Focus: If your life is lining up with the wrong kingdom, the wrong daddy and the curse, you can change this today. Pray with me. Dear Father, I want Your life, Your light. I want to live in Your kingdom and do things Your way. Be my Daddy today and lead me to the life of blessing You want me to live.
